Dental Cleanings

It is recommended that you visit your dentist every six months for a dental checkup and teeth cleaning. This helps you and your dentist talk about your current concerns, look for problems, and prevent tooth and gum issues in the future.

With Dr. Grody, a routine oral exam is done each time you come in for a teeth cleaning. Just like with new patient exams, we carefully check your teeth and gums for any problems. We provide an oral cancer screening. Of course, if there are any special areas of concern, we will look closely at those and take additional x-rays, as needed. We check the fit and function of all tooth replacements. We make time at these regular dental checkups to inspect, clean, adjust, and replace attachments for tooth replacements our patients may have.

We will take cavity-check or “bitewing” x-rays, annually. These are also helpful in monitoring periodontal health by showing changes in your jawbone around your teeth. Depending upon your periodontal condition (gun and jawbone), we will measure your gum levels at different intervals (possibly every three or six months).

Dental Cleanings

Dr. Grody provides regular, preventive dental cleanings for patients as young as 3 years of age. During your teeth cleaning, we will advise you on the best way to maintain good health. We take time to show all of our patients how they can improve their at-home dental care efforts. Sometimes, in order to prevent problems, more frequent or more in-depth cleaning techniques are necessary.

With children, we usually apply fluoride to the teeth after cleaning. And we recommend sealants for children which help prevent decay from starting in the grooves in the biting surfaces of the teeth. We often prescribe fluoride for home use for both children and adults who may be cavity prone.
